ECVC’s Leadership Team

  • President: Lauren Johnson

    Lauren is a 3L at UVA Law. Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, she graduated from Arizona Christian University in 2017 with B.S. degrees in Political Science and Communications. She spent her 1L summer at LabCFTC, her 2L summer at Wiley Rein LLP in Washington, D.C., and will be joining Wiley full-time after graduation. Before law school she worked as a legal analyst and paralegal at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office where she developed and ran the first Fintech Sandbox in the U.S.

    Lauren serves as the Editor in Chief of Virginia Law & Business Review, President of the Emerging Company & Venture Capital Society, and Producer for the Libel Show.

  • Vice President: James Aiken

    James is an entrepreneur at heart. He started his own small business, a tutoring and test-prep company, at 24 years old. After successfully growing that company for over five years, he began working as a small business consultant, helping other entrepreneurs solve managerial and operational challenges. His passion for acting as an advisor—combined with his desire to work alongside more impactful companies—led him to law school. He is spending next summer at the San Francisco office of Ropes & Gray, where he hopes to be exposed to the full array of transactional work available to corporate attorneys.

  • Director of Communication: Matthew Cook

    Originally from a small town in Illinois near Iowa, Matthew graduated from Western Illinois University with a B.A. in Supply Chain Management and International Business. He worked in Chicago for two years before going to law school as a technology consultant helping Chicago firms understand and navigate software licensing contracts. After law school, Matthew will be joining O’Melveny’s Silicon Valley Office.

  • Director of Professional Development: Peter Hamilton

    Peter Lee Hamilton is from Bellevue, Washington, and Vienna, Virginia. He graduated from Georgetown University in May 2020 as an Entrepreneurship Fellow, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and studying journalism. Prior to starting law school, he ran a startup focused on supporting medical supply companies build out their North American distribution and founded a civic engagement organization supporting the Asian Pacific American community. Next summer Peter will be working as a summer associate in Cooley's Palo Alto office before pursuing his MBA at the Darden School of Business.

  • Treasurer: Benjamin Gillman

    Ben is from Newport Beach, CA, and received a B.A. in Economics and M.A. in Public Policy from Stanford University. Prior to law school he worked as a research assistant at the Hudson Institute, focused on U.S. National Security in the Indo-Pacific. He spent the summer of 2021 as a judicial intern for the Hon. Jeffrey S. Sutton, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In the summer of 2022 he will be a summer associate at the law firm Holland & Knight.
